They forgot to clean my room the first day. I felt a little unsafe walking at night by myself as lots of people on drugs handing around. My room was on the second floor a few doors down from a meeting room they rent out. An event started at 6am and yelling, laughing for everyone to hear on that floor. The hotel is run down and needs a complete remodel. Dark and dingy halls. There was a loud tapping sound in the walls that kept me awake all night and kind of sounded like the water pipes.

Good Service

This is a nicely updated historic hotel in the heart of San Diego. Unfortunately, the updates could not do anything about the thin walls that are commonplace in older buildings. First night we were kept awake by the folks in the next room until the wee hours. Fortunately, front desk was super responsive, moving us to an upgraded corner suite for the remainder of our trip and waiving the convenience fee for our troubles. It was a bummer to have a lousy night's sleep, but was impressed with how the staff handled the issue.

Everything would’ve been great if the AC was actually working. The room was HOT all night despite us having the AC “on” I don’t think it was working. I did mention it to them at check out and they just said, thank you we’ll make sure to let maintenance know.

Only stayed for one night, but I went up having to leave the hotel for a shared workspace other than work from my room, which would’ve been more convenient. The Sophia was a great place to stay. Conveniently located within walking distance to many restaurants and the pier. Room was clean and comfortable. The filtered water stations to refill my water bottle was super convenient and tasted great.

The hotel is ok, expensive for what it is. Staff is young and inexperienced. I think the times that hotels like this hired staff that got education in hospitality is long gone. The room was nice but bathroom was dusty .The coffee machine only had 3 decaf bags of coffee most likely left over from people who did not want it. Parking is expensive.

Air conditioner was outrageously loud. Without a doubt, the loudest air conditioner ever in a hotel room. Everything else was fine. No smart tv. Corner room had very nice views. Not a fan of vanity/sink/mirror not being enclosed along with shower and toilet.
