Lovely time

Not 4 star !

Location was lovely but not what I would call 4 star. I would expect midges and flies due to location in gardens but not a cockroach! There was a huge cockroach in our room, maintenance killed it, we were told it was dealt with and we weren't offered a new room. When I asked to move rooms I was told there was none, I then had to insist I wasn't going to sleep in the room and they found us a new room, which had less of a musty smell unlike the old one. In terms of customer service, I would have expected an apology, but also to move us straight away without us having to insist and to be told ' it's just a coackroach' is not 4 star service. I would have expected some room rate reduction for changing rooms but nothing was offered. We normally stay 5 star, but this by 4 star standards was very poor. Had they dealt with the situation better our overall experience may have been better .

Good for "room only"

We spent eight days at this resort with room only. Tried the breakfast at the hotel once, and it was perfectly ok, but not worth €35 for the two of us. There are a few great places to eat in the village with interesting dinner menus, and which give better value for money. The hotel location means you need a shuttle bus to get to Funchal, another overprices service at €12 when we asked. Luckily we had our own rented car which only cost €2 per day to park (very crowded car park, but they found us a place every day.) The room was spacious and equipped with a small kitchen for simple cooking. The TV had a few channels in English, including Sky News and BBC World. BBC1 was on the list but did not work. The garden and the view were outstanding and the room was well cleaned.

wunderschöne anlage. aufmerksames personal. alle sehr nett. toller spa. vielfältiges angebot. essen und veranstaltungen. nettes dörfliches zentrum in der nähe. die busverbindung in die stadt war halt manchmal grenzwertig. aber das gehört ja zu den ferienerlebnissen. gerne wieder.

Zu teuer und für alles muss extra bezahlt werden!

Pros: Das Hotel beeindruckt durch die botanische Gartenanlage mit seiner tropischen Bepflanzung. Die einzelnen Studiozimmer sind gut in diese integriert.
Cons: Parkplatzgebühr (€ 3.90/Tag) & Schwimmbadeintritt für Hotelgäste abschaffen. Preis für Zimmer-Upgrade reduzieren (€ 420 für 14 Tage sind übertrieben)
Location: Das Hotel liegt in "Canico" auf ca. 200 Meter üM, zwischen Funchal und Flughafen. Funchal ist mit dem öffentlichen Bus erreichbar (Fischmarkt).
Während unseres 14-tägiger Urlaubes wechselten sich Sonnenschein und Regen ständig ab, was Levada-Wanderungen in den Bergen leider unmöglich machte. Wir waren das dritte Mal auf Madeira und mussten feststellen, dass entlang der Levada-Wege, vor allem in den urbanen Gebieten der abgelagerte Hausabfall (ausgediente Kühlschränke, Waschmaschinen und Plastik aller Art) stark zugenommen hat, was unser Wandervergnügen reduziert hat!
