It is in the downtown area that one can find much of the traditional trading, there are stores for every taste. But the downtown does not live solely of commerce as culture peeks around every turn.
Practically all the downtown streets converge to Praça do Bocage, one of the key meeting points of the people of Setúbal and those visiting the city. The Bocage Square is stage for several esplanades, dedicated to one of the greatest figures of Portuguese poetry. Also, in this square is where you´ll find the Municipal Town Hall. The statue of the poet Bocage, with his eyes fixed on the sea, is the landmark of the busiest square in the City.
Right up ahead, we highlight the main avenue of the city, dedicated to Luísa Todi, born in Setúbal and recognized as one of the greatest names ever in lyric singing. In this avenue guests will find several restaurants, supermarkets, lovely kiosks and esplanades and the famous Fish Market, which deserves a special visit.
Just off the busy and bustling city the Arrábida mountain lurks, with its breath-taking views, spectacular beaches and unique fauna and flora. Figueirinha, Galápos, Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Creiro are but a few of the magnificent beaches where guests can enjoy sunbathing and clear blue water.
The church of the Monastery of Jesus, built between 1490 and 1510, is one of citiy´s ex-libris and a very significant monument of Portuguese architecture.
