The bar and restaurant let this place down. The bar is spartan, like a school 1950s canteen, and had a filthy main glass table with ripped 2 year old "Good housekeeping" magazines laying on top....there's a misnomer. My room was spotlessly clean and bed very comfortable. Ate in the restaurant on my first night as it was bitterly cold and freezing outside, so didn't fancy going out. There was no heating on in the restaurant, when i asked why I was told it was on a timer. Ridiculous!

Room was dated. Woken at 5.40am by refuse truck emptying bins. At 7.30am fresh laundry was delivered to the hotel via fire escape next to my room. The bags were dropped loudly on the floor and against the wall of my room. When I looked outside the door there were approximately 12 large laundry bags piled up each side of my bedroom door. When I asked the cleaning staff later I was told this was the usual practice. I will be requesting a refund from the hotel.

The room, large and clean with comfortable bed, nice clean bathroom. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was good, breakfast cooked to order and lots of choice. The location of the Hotel is great for Shaftesbury town, a 12 minute walk takes you to the centre. We really liked it. We didn’t use the pool but it looks nice, although it seemed to be constantly used by locals mainly. Overall very happy

Was given a twin room despite booking a double room. I wouldn't normally be bothered but this was the second time this week this happened in different hotels. The single bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were awful. The room was spacious and warm but dated and there were signs of dust on the lamps etc so cleaning wasn't very good. Bathroom looked like it had recently been updated and was fine although when you stepped in the shower it felt like you might go through the tray! Food was good in the restarant though. Limited choice but it was actually quite good.

The reception staff were lovely. The man who welcomed us on arrival was particularly helpful and cheerful. The lady on reception was very helpful too…especially dealing with a slightly awkward situation with a man who thought he had left belongings in our room! The hotel itself is a bit ‘tired’ and could do with a bit of an upgrade. But, saying that, our room was clean and tidy and the king size bed was very comfortable in the ‘double room’ we booked. We used the swimming pool and sauna which was an added bonus. Again, the area was a bit ‘tired’ but we enjoyed it. We decided to use the shower in our room as the ones in the changing rooms smelt a bit. The food from the restaurant we had was particularly nice and so was the cooked breakfast. There was a really good choice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

2 night stay in Shaftesbury

View from room 22 was over front with car park and then fairly busy road. Staff were courteous and helpful. Pool was lovely albeit kidney shaped. Parking was plentiful and had 2 disabled places much to our relief beside front entrance. No lift and steep stairs to first floor. Breakfast was plentiful and of great variety. Would stay again. Only problem was an alarm on next door room going off at 5.30am for 20 minutes. Apparently guest had left it minutely ajar. Tried phoning reception ONLY ansaphone not good enough when states reception open 24/7 and we were not sure what to do. Thankfully guest returned after 20 minutes and closed door.

Everything in the hotel took me back to my younger days and set us off a reminiscing about the 1990's. There are some nods to the 21st century but luckily they don't get in the way. The only downside is that the bathroom could have used some black mould remover in places. If you're looking for a class of 1997 reunion venue I would highly recommend this hotel.
