We were staying to attend a wake the next day. We booked in for dinner, and the food was some of the best we have eaten since the Lockdowns. Well done, to the chef - a lovely experience.
The breakfast was delicious & a large choice available. The staff were very welcoming and accommodation really clean & comfortable. Would heartily recommend & will stay again in the future.
A typical country pub in an old building serving locals and visitors. Staff were excellent and helpful. We were there for a birthday lunch and stayed the night, returning home the next day. A large garden with view over the surrounding farmland.
Lunch was somewhat disappointing and my steak was tough. The light meals in the evening were more interesting and better.
The en-suite room was OK. The fitted sheet and mattress cover were too small. After a couple of hours, they'd both come off.
Unless you know the area, you might struggle to find it down various rural lanes. Approaching from the A303, these were narrow and extensively flooded. Easier from the A30.
The room was quietly located at the side of the beer garden over looking lovely fields. The staff were really welcoming & friendly. The breakfast superb & Wadworth 6X delicious.

Ok but not impressed for many reasons
Stayed overnight for a quiet and relaxing evening away with dinner.
Picked as it had 5* reviews/showed as 5* on Hotel.com. Would say is more 3*
The room was in an annex to the pub. Not what we expected as the photos are a bit misleading. Room was quite small.
Had to duck under tv on bracket to get to bathroom if tv was in use. Couldnt use plug hy bedside without unplugging bedside lamp as the other socket had a router plugged into it.
Ill fitting bed linen (fitted double sheets squeezed onto kingsize/ or incorrectvsize for mattress. Bed was comfy and slept well.
No ventilation in room (no windows or vents) aprat from leaving main door open all night which isnt ideal on the ground floor for safety/security reasons.
TV didnt work properly (smart tv but no comnection to network) so couldnt use our own sign in to watch a film on an app in the evening. Nobody knew how to fix it.
Dinner was ok but overpriced for the quality.
Triple cooked chips were not so. Starters expensive for what they were. £26.50 was too expensive for a rump steak of that quality.
Bathroom had peeling/missing paint and cobwebs behind basin. Toilet seat was dirty/stained yellow on underside and the incorrect size/shape for the pan. Shower was large and good though.
At dinner had asked for main dining area but initially seated in a "back dining area" away from everybody else. It smelled damp and musty in there and asked to move. Were moved to main dining area which was much fresher.
Amazing staff, blissfully comfortable bed, all little details like fresh milk for tea/coffee we’re thought of, beautiful view from my room, and food was amazing with clearly lovely, locally sourced produce. It was a lovely spot for a little solo staycation!
The rose and crown is a typical country’s hostilely in a lovely peaceful location. It is well looked after with a cheerful. Welcoming band of staff. The menu however invited a “wow factor”- sadly this did not always materialise. The service however was excellent. The garden room was lovely- wonderful beds, well furnished and good en-suite.
Lovely rooms with private sit out overlooking the gardens, fields and beyond. Breakfast was top quality and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Their beer garden and private sit out of each room is worth a separate mention 👍
Comfortable room at a lovely country pub. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with quality produce. Very quiet location with beautiful views in a small and ancient village.
Lovely place to stay with an amazing view of surrounding countryside including from the room we stayed in. It also had a small private space outside for sitting in the sun and drinking in the view. Would highly recommend. The only slight downside was not enough options on the menus for vegetarians which is a shame, as what there was,was delicious ,
It was amazing place to stay and very friendly staff. Perfect for us and this is our sevens stay in this place.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Very unique little rooms which are lovely for a bit of quiet time. Cleanliness is rather lacking, the night before the waitress was laying up for breakfast and she had her hands inside the crockery as she carried it, then she smoothed out the cutlery with her hands. In my room both water glasses were covered in finger prints. In the morning whilst waiting for breakfast I could hear the chef constantly sniffing with the odd cough thrown in whilst he was cooking (I was the only one in the restaurant and he was the only one in the kitchen). The breakfast came out looking amazing but there was no way I was going to eat it for fear of me eating something that had quite likely dripped from his nose.
