We stayed at Hotel Azul because in our previous trip (3 years ago) to Tulum we were staying at a different property but in our wondering around we stumbled into Azul I believe because they coffee or a bakery. They were very inviting and we ended up having drinks at the pool with great service.
The property is still nice unfortunately service is very lacking. There are two restaurants on prop and both are owned by someone other than the hotel. This causes some oddities and complete lack of service. We tried the in room breakfast twice both times it was terrible but what was worse as this restaurant is not part of the hotel really the cleaning staff would not remove the old food or plates. Even if you put them outside your door they would be there until a animal took the food then the dishes would just sit.
The service at the beach is done by the other restaurant and as long as someone is there its pretty good but quite often you have to go looking for someone.
Car or scooter parking is about 2 US blocks away and do to the location to get to most of the services in the area you will need one.
It was a lot of little things like chairs with the bottoms broken out of them by the pool or no one lighting the candle votives that guide you up the steps to your room most nights. Then the service issues that made this vacation less than what we hoped for as the staff 3 years ago was on point. I hope they figure it out as its a cool hotel overall.
