We arrived to find the check in staff member focused heavily on the computer screen. After about 4 minutes we were told they would be with us shortly (without looking up) and after another 4 minutes I eventually asked if we should just wait somewhere else where we were finally told there was an IT issue; it would have been nice to know this straight away rather than standing with a tired child not knowing why we were being ignored. The room was clean but as others said the bathroom needed work; we had to shoulder barge the door to get it to close as the handle and latch mechanism were in poor condition. The complimentary snacks were a nice touch and the bed was comfy but sadly the main reason we can’t recommend this room is the temperature in summer. With windows open and a fan going it was still UNBEARABLY hot all night. We barely slept which was so frustrating as we had stopped here to have a good nights sleep and head off on holiday to Southampton the next day, but we ended up starting our holiday more tired than if we had just gone straight from home to Southampton on the same day. We told hotel staff who just agreed it does get hot in the rooms and a ‘sorry’ was said but there was no follow up of making things right or offering solutions/showing signs of disappointment that we had not enjoyed our stay. Sadly we wouldn’t recommend people stay here in summer without checking first what room they are getting and how hot the weather is on the day of check in.

The facilities were clean and tidy, although showing some signs of age. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was of a high standard, well presented and tasty. The supplied 'treats' indicated the level of care and thoughtfulness given by the management and staff. We would recommend the Hampshire Hog to family / friends and would stay there again.

Would I stay here again? Yes I would, that says a lot for the Hampshire Hog. It was an easy check in and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was large, comfortable with all amenities with extras of a wonderful bottle of cider and water. We ate there in the evening and the choice of food was excellent and was very good. Breakfast was plentiful, varied and excellent. Only downside was it was one of the hottest days of the summer which didn't help with sleeping but a fan was already provided in the room. A very pleasant short stay.

Very convenient for visiting both Portsmouth and Petersfield as main shopping areas. But also a short distance from other national trust or places of interest.

Loved our overnight stay at the Hampshire Hog.
We felt very welcome at the Hampshire Hog from the moment we walked through the door. The staff were friendly and efficient and not only seemed to really care about guests but also about each other - they appeared to have the right sort of rapport with each other, making everything run very smoothly.

Hampshire Hog 2 night stay April 2024
Fantastic stay at the Hampshire Hog. 2 x nights 24th &25th April 2024 Staff extremely friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We didn’t eat in the evening, but breakfast was very nice, choice of full English breakfast, fruit, and lots of options, which were all good quality. The room was huge, we stayed in room 14. Reception advised whatever was in the room drink or food was ours foc. Well, there was 2 large bottles of cider, 2 bags of crisps, good quality chocolate, artisan coffees, 2 bottles of water, and small bottle of milk, fantastic. Room as I say was huge, the bathroom was tired and needed some updating but was clean, there was a bit of mould around bath sealant and hot tap in sink was noisy. The bed mattress was of poor quality, no bed toppers available, but we solved it by using one of the blankets folded and laid under the sheet, which was much more comfortable. That aside we had a brilliant break, there was some confusion with payment (nothing to do with the hotel) but down to hotels.com. The lovely hotel receptionist, sorry can’t remember your name, but did everything she could to resolve. We will definitely stay here again.
