Honestly, If I'd paid half as much for this property I'd have no complaints. But I paid Marriott prices for Econolodge accommodations. My room wasn't cleaned at all while I was there. The beds sank toward the center so I was sleeping on top of my husband. The carpets, furniture, and bathrooms were dingy. It was just way too much money for what I ended up getting.

I was so disappointed in the way this property handled what was a very dangerous weather situation. They clearly do not value their guests at all. I was really looking forward to bringing my kids up but will absolutely never be doing so after their clear disregard for their guests safety and wellbeing. Disappointing.

We spend a weekend at the shire every winter and absolutely love it! It’s walkable to the heart of Woodstock, close to Killington, and even allows us to bring our dog! Can’t wait for next year!

Be aware that this is a low grade motel. I paid extra through Expedia to be charged at the peroperty at the time of check in but I was charged two days before arrival. We ended up not staying at the motel and they refused to refund us. Terrible service by both Expedia and the property.

Great Location and Comfortable Stay

I had a great stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic—everything was easily accessible, and the view of the river was a nice bonus. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were super comfortable, which made for a relaxing stay. While the TVs could use an upgrade, it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, a positive experience, and I’d stay here again.

This is a lovely town, and the hotel itself is fairly nice, but I was very unhappy that the back door to our room did not lock. We were on the ground floor, so that meant anyone could enter at any time from the outside. Management did not fix it even though we let them know about the safety problem.

We had a premium king room which was lovely. It had a balcony and the room overlooked the river, fields and mountains. We stayed there for 4 nights. The rooms are not serviced during your stay. However, you can request clean towels etc if you need them.

I thought The Shire was great!. Very clean. Friendly staff. Great coffee. Quiet. Walking distance to town. This is a motel like set up. No restaurant but plenty around and a grocery store across the street. Rugs in rooms. I don’t like that but they were very clean. Excellent shampoo, high quality body cream that smelled great! Nice touch!
