We really felt that this property was overrated, and also misrepresented... it was portrayed as much fancier and cooler than it was.
The room was tiny, cramped, and crypt like, and the overall inn itself was small, dark and cramped as well. It seemed clean on the surface, but the whole experience felt grimy, and I didn't really want to set anything down in our room.
I dreaded going back to the property at the end of the day, and felt claustrophobic and uncomfortable the whole time we were there. Honestly, we should have checked out and gone somewhere else, but we didn't realize that it was an option, as we had prepaid for the stay.
Additionally, the property was located in the most cramped, overly touristy area in York, and there were throngs of people outside at all times. This is a terrible, touristy location.
The noise levels were unbelievable, and I can't believe that there were no warnings about this in advance. The room is over a noisy pub, and there was loud drunken revelry below us and outside the window which kept waking us up.
The staff seemed annoyed by working there, and there was a general lack of care and attention in general.
Also, some people might have thought that the age and deterioration of the building was quaint and historic, but the room slanted really dramatically and it made it difficult to walk around. The bed was loud and creaky, and the sheets were rough like sandpaper.
This was one of the worst places we have ever stayed!
