For starters, the pictures are accurate. The house sits on a ridge overlooking the Arroyo Hondo valley, with stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east and south. On clear nights, the stargazing was fantastic. You have a lot of privacy there. While there are other houses close by on the road, but I don’t think we ever saw another person around during our five days there.
The location was great for exploring the area. We enjoyed the hot spring resorts in Ojo Caliente and Jemez Springs (the latter is substantially farther though). There are a ton of hiking options nearby for almost any level of interest/ability. We had a great day hike along the Rio Grande Canyon.
Restaurant choices were really good- especially for a relatively rural area. There were several great restaurants in Taos and the little towns on the way to Taos. Arroyo Seco- about 15 minutes away- has a couple of fancier, chef-driven type places.
Overall, we were really pleased. The only drawback that comes to mind is that- like a lot of houses around there- it does not have AC. Of course, being in the high desert, nights were very cool and the days were relatively mild in late April.
