Room not ready, forgot our reservation, bathroom shared and down to first floor, and through livingroom. Nice older lady with financial concerns, not up to operating a three room vrbo. There was a $25 perday parking charge which we did know about. The interior was in fairly poor condition, loose wallpaper, doors hard to open and close. New tile or hard scrubbing in the very outdatedshared shower.
I arrived on a rainy night, not knowing there were several steps up to the front door as there was only a picture of the back door on the VRBO page. I tripped up and hurt my knee carrying my bags up the stairs. The host was not only unsympathetic but blamed me for not âreading the descriptionâ and asked if I wanted to see her bruises from falls!! The photos gave the impression that this would be a private space with bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom. However, these are rooms within the hosts house with the bathroom and kitchenette downstairs. This was cumbersome to deal with. Also, there are no curtains on the bedroom windows so while changing at night, neighbors in the property across the road could potentially see into my room. Unfortunately, despite her attempts to apologize for her rude behavior, I felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable in this VRBO. Also, I had to give a $1500 deposit for this awful experience.
The property and neighborhood look lovely but I didn't end up staying there because the owner was at first unresponsive, and then rude and insulting. Immediately after I booked, I received a text message explaining that I must provide my proof of COVID immunizations card, that it is a strict vegetarian household and a shared space. This was not very clear in the ad under the house rules. I was already traveling and I did not have access to my immunization card so I asked some clarifying questions that I never got an answer to until I called VRBO. Owner was even unresponsive to VRBO for over a day and I finally was able to get the owner to talk over the phone while was at the airport about to get on a flight to Boston. She insisted that I wear a mask all weekend and "that it is her house and then I was too dumb to read the details of the property." She asked repeatedly what my flight number and information was and got extremely hostile when I didn't understand why that mattered in my stay there. At that point I became very uncomfortable and asked if I could have some sort of partial refund as I didn't feel comfortable in an unfamiliar area and stay with somebody who's already clearly so angry and hostile. I was promised $75 refund, where the owner exclaimed "not a penny more because you don't deserve it!" I never received that $75 refund but truly at this point don't even care because I think the experience would have been extremely uncomfortable.
