My family and I stayed in cottage #2 for a week, and although we enjoyed our time in the cottage, I wish I had spent more time searching for a nicer rental property for us to stay in. For the price, I expected a slightly higher level of quality. The cottage was not particularly clean. There was dust on the exposed pipes in the bathrooms and elsewhere, the walls need a coat of paint, mold is growing in the main bedroom ceiling and the carpet upstairs is spotted with stains. The bed in the main bedroom is sagging, uncomfortable and needs to be replaced. When I lifted the mattress to make the bed, there was so much dust under the bed, it looked as if the bed had never been moved and vacuumed under. The bathrooms are dark, windowless and cramped (there's a reason the owner doesn't provide photos of the bathrooms.)
The description of the cottage is misleading. Although there might be a tumble dryer in cottage #1, none exists in cottage #2. Bed linens are provided, but the beds were not made. "Linen is available for hire on request" means there are no bath towels or kitchen towels. I should have inqured about this before we arrived, but since it's something I've never encountered at any rental that I've ever stayed at, it was a bit of a surprise. I'm accustomed to renting beach towels, but never bath towels or kitchen towels. Upon arriving and realizing there were no towels, I requested them from Janet and Elsie. They didn't arrive until late the next afternoon, so noone was able to take showers that morning. Janet waived the charge due to the confusion, but nevertheless, if you rent this place, you should expect to pay a fee for towels. In addition, be prepared to pay the taxe de séjour (resort tax). This is an extra charge that you will be asked to leave in cash on the table when you depart. On this trip, we also stayed at another rental for a week. The taxe de séjour was already bundled into the price, which, by the way, was quite a lot less than what we paid here, the house was more elegant, more comfortable, cleaner and there was no controversy over towels.
The cottage is pleasantly located in a pine forest with close bicycle access to the beach, the lake and the town. In my opinion, though, the description of the property needs to be more accurate and the owner needs to be more transparent about the hidden costs.
