Lovely property up a small hill, ten minutes walk just outside the village of Otterton. Clean and comfortable. We were greeted personally by Claire.
Box of sweets and tea left for us but no coffee or sugar. No instructions left on how to use any of the electricals or the gas boiler, and despite putting the hot water on an hour before a bath, the water was barely warm. Although the owner said to call her if there were any issues, we don't consider it a holiday if we're having to sort issues out by phoning people. We prefer to be independent if possible. The toilet cistern can be slow to refill.
A lovely garden is provided with a great view and sun loungers. We had looked forward to relaxing out there. However we barely used it due to the owners using loud machinery such as a petrol driven motor lawn mower on and off for two mornings. We were even asked if we minded the garden lawn being scarified with one of these noisy machines, and when I suggested it be left for another day, the owner went away muttering that the machine had to go back that day. My husband had just received some bad personal news that morning too.
If you are in the holiday let business and you offer a quiet, rural property, then you should strive to actually achieve this. We were only there for a few days so surely lawn mowing and work should have been left for changeover days or when guests aren't there. We especially chose this property due to its quiet location and garden for us to have a break from the often noisy city that we live in.
We would definitely come back to lovely Otterton with its beavers and old mill and pub but we won't be booking this property again.
