The Crags Hotel is conveniently located on the main street of Callander, making it easily accessible from the bus stop and surrounded by many activities. It was the cheapest option we found, as our goal was hiking, and we just needed a place to sleep. However, several issues made our stay mediocre to poor.
Firstly, we booked through Expedia, but upon arrival, they didn’t have our reservation or any record of it. Two staff members, one at the bar and a waitress, couldn’t handle the situation and had to call the manager or owner. After some time, they sorted it out and assigned us room number 1.
They couldn’t find the room key. When we finally got to the room, it was extremely small, and the door didn’t open properly. It was clearly a single room, as there was only one towel and one bottle of water, but we had booked for “two people.” The room description mentioned a television, but it was removed because it didn’t work.
I asked if I could leave my luggage the next day to do another hike before returning to Glasgow, which confused them again. They had to contact the manager/owner, who eventually agreed. The check-out time is at 10:30 am, which is unusual, and the check-in time is at 3:00 pm. So, for a one-night stay, you have to wake up early to leave by the specified time.
Overall, the place is decent, clearly not a luxury hotel, but it is small and the staff is inefficient. Fortunately, they managed to resolve each issue as it arose.
