The house was great and the host was nice and responsive.
Our reason for the low rating has everything to do with the contract we received the day before our reservation. We did not feel comfortable signing it, but were told it was mandatory and there would be no entry without it.
Our only options were to sign the contract or cancel, which would have resulted in a loss of payment. They said they would not cancel. We gave in & signed. I will note that after we had signed the owners sent a message through the host that they would refund us minus the fees. We had already signed and also had already searched and knew we didn’t have good options for a group of 8 on what was now our day of arrival. We just decided to spend as little time as possible there as to have less opportunities to incur any of their large service fees.
Please understand we totally believe the owner and their company Mayden Enterprises, LLC have all the rights to have a contract and ask renters to sign it. We also believe the day before arrival is too late to send the contract, especially without a full-refund option. They stated they don’t send it sooner because the address is on the contract, but that could be changed. My reservation was confirmed on Apr 17 and had until Apr 25 to cancel w/ full refund. That’s when the contract should be sent, not the day before arrival. VRBO should require that it to be sent during that initial reservation time as good business practice and full transparency.
