The breakfast was good, the staff were really nice and helpful, the room was clean. However, the room was classed as a superior room.......my room was NOT superior. It was more like a standard to basic room. Bathroom ...the bathroom was dated especially the shower. Every time you flushed the toilet there was a lot of noise coming from the plumbing. The furniture in the bedroom was hand painted, poor mattress and cushion on the bed was frayed. I have never complained about a room before but sorry I expected more for a superior room.

Rooms very poor and dirty, wallpaper hanging off the wall in bathroom

A lovely place to stay with a hearty breakfast. Only negative would be the confusion caused by the menu in the information pack in the bedroom. The menu in the room was out of date and many of the items shown were not available for consumption. Potion size of desert was small.

Lovely small hotel

Pros: Good value for money for the bed and breakfast and the dinner we had in the restaurant.
Location: There is a large park almost next door which has lovely gardens and good views over the city. Walking distance to the city centre but up a hill!
We stayed here for one night to break our journey to Scotland and were very pleasantly surprised by how lovely it was. There was car parking behind the hotel. We were in Room 1 which was a large room with all the facilities you would expect including tea and coffee making and the bathroom seemed newly decorated. It is relatively close to the centre of Durham, the only drawback being the fact that it is at the top of a hill but as Durham itself is on a hill that's hardly surprising and there was a car park at the bottom of the hill so that worked well! We had dinner in the restaurant on the evening and the food and service were excellent and really good value for money. The breakfast in the morning was lovely, cereals, fruit juice, full English, toast and tea and coffee and again the staff were very helpful. We would happily stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Durham.
