Strong storms passed through the area just when we arrived, and in less than 2 hours after checking in, the power went out (it was a city wide and much of a nearby large city that was affected). Our host brought a lamp and a flashlight right away, and then ran a power cord from his emergency generator to us in a separate structure - in order to run the frig, air conditioner and to charge our phones. It resolved about an hour later, so all was good. The unit was nicely decorate, clean and secure. We did have a 2-day learning curve for the hanging barn doors, but managed ;) Ample treats, games and DVDs were provided. We would definitely stay there again when visiting family.
Great little house, ideal for the 2 of us! Enjoyed all the extras that they had for us and really enjoyed the decor. TV worked great with many stations. Would stay there again if in the area. It is only 11 miles to the Amana Colonies where we had our convention.
Unexpected snacks & drinks were a nice surprise, which was a lifesaver when my nieces came to visit. Love learning about the history of the house & area, even though I grew up not far away. Communication was excellent, checkout easy. I'll definitely keep the Fairfax house in mind when I come back!
Cute, cozy, comfortable, it was everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. Bed and futon were very comfortable, the little basket of snacks and beverages were a thoughtful touch. We will definitely be back again. And I already told several friends to check it out when in Iowa.
The location was perfect for our getaway to the Amana Colonies and Iowa City. The place was clean, well stocked, cute, and the hosts left fresh baked cookies for us! We felt right at home.
We had gone to Cedar Rapids for a special occasion. We wanted to be near but not in the city. The Fairfax house was perfect. It was clean and quiet. It had a nice outdoor space to sit. The hostess was prompt in her response. We found Morgan Creek Park nearby with great trails and we were 11 miles from the Amana Colonies. The property fit our needs to a tee.
It was wonderful. The host greeted us upon arrival. The home was very cute and clean with goodies in the fridge for us. Home was well stocked. We had privacy, very nice.
Our weekend stay in Fairfax was awesome. The guesthouse was very clean, extremely. well decorated and was everything we needed. It was obvious the property owner put a lot of thought, time and effort into making this guesthouse cozy, accommodating, and everything we needed to make us feel at home there. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
We were in IA for a flyball (dog sport) and stayed at this property. The owners were amazing and responded quickly to all questions. The yard was great for our dogs. Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in away from home. Would recommend this place for your stay!
Very charming, clean, and welcoming property, with all the amenities one could need for a short stay. Very much appreciated the owner, and his high-level of communication.
This is a fantastic little cottage. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Iowa. Very close to restaurants on the SW side of town, interstate 380 and downtown Cedar Rapids. There is a large park, walking trail and dog park right behind the cottage.
The owners are very friendly and Fairfax is a great, quiet little town!
Really loved our stay here. The house is small, but has a queen-size bed in a decent sized bed-room and then a futon in the main room that can be pulled out - two small teens slept comfortably on the futon. Cute little kitchen/living area with a smart TV so we still had our netflix. Bathroom had a nice shower with toiletries and towels provided. There were even robes! The only thing we didn't love about the house were the bathroom and bedroom doors - they look awesome because they're sliding wooden barn doors that really add to the atmosphere, but they don't provide a ton of noise privacy...the teens were nervous about being heard in the bathroom and waking me up in the morning. But the yard was great. The house is set back in the backyard of a main house, so you share the yard with the actual home owners, but they were very pleasant and let us have the yard to ourselves when we were there. It feels very remote and private. There is a wooden swing and great firepit and cool lighting, with everything needed to start a fire. We had a great, relaxing time just hanging out and making smores over the fire. We definitely are happy with our decision to stay here instead of in a hotel when we came to town. We plan to use it again if we're ever out that way overnight again!
This cottage was perfect for my husband and I (and our doggy)đ. Everything we needed and more was provided in this cute, beautifully decorated place. There were snacks and drinks out when we arrived. The friendly owners are in a house nearby but stopped by only to see if we needed anything. It was so relaxing to sit outside in the tree swing and listen to the sounds of a ballgame in the neighboring baseball field. A huge dog park was just a short walk near a great playground and more ball fields. The bed was very comfy and we also enjoyed the TV with lots of viewing options. But the highlight was having my parents and sister join us at the fire pit where we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. So relaxing and peaceful!
Itâs basically an apartment away from the property you can be pretty loud and nobody will hear you super private and the homeowners were absolutely wonderful and definitely made it known if you need something say something if not we wonât bother you and I canât tell you how much a relief that is compared to others Iâve been in!
Every single detail was taken care of. There was food in the kitchen, even frozen pizzas. There was a washer and dryer, French press AND percolator AND 2 kinds of local coffee for us. The place is decorated in Iowa regalia like Grant Wood paintings, the history of the house, and magazines specific to the area. There is a fire pit with a swing outside, also surrounded by stumps to sit on that had the sharp bits sanded down. There is also a playground, baseball diamond, basketball hoop, tennis courts, and walking trail right behind the house. Every single detail was taken care of. It was truly an amazing experience.
