It was my 71st birthday and I wanted to spend it hiking through the waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park and staying somewhere quiet and cozy at night. This place totally fit the bill! The one-room cottage was warm and inviting, immaculately clean. The bed was so comfortable. I am fussy about mattresses and this one was better than mine at home. It was very private but the host couple live on the property and are available at a moment’s notice if needed for anything. The spacious and private bathroom and showers are a short walk away, the area is well-lit at night, again immaculate, rustic but not funky. We also had sole access to a barn that has been converted to an activity room. Beautiful cement floors, comfortable furniture. There’s a wood stove, pingpong table and an impossible thousand piece jigsaw puzzle that we added a few pieces to. Again everything immaculate. An old horse wanders around the yard as well as a gentle elderly dog. If the dog is invited, he will come to sit with you on the cottage porch and get some gentle pets but if you don’t want his company he won’t approach. There are beautiful colorful chickens, like moving art pieces, that wander over to take a look at you and then wander off. A short amble takes you to the Thomas River which was roaring this Spring, although our hostess told us you can walk across it in the late summer. All in all if you want a rustic, private stay in a clean well-appointed room, you can’t go wrong here. And don’t miss the 10 waterfalls and the amazing WPA, CCA rock work at Silver Falls State Park. Simply astounding.
