An incredible location for a weekend stay. We arrived after dark, started a small fire in the wood stove, and laid out our bedding in an immaculately kept cabin.
The next day we sat around the fire and enjoyed the dead quiet. The only sounds we heard were birds, the wind, and the beavers downing trees once every few hours. We canoed close to a mile down the river after a short portage, saw a few beavers, and got to enjoy a great Fall weekend.
We didn't see a single other person all weekend. I have been on backpacking trips that were less private. We saw beavers, newts, snapping turtles, and plenty of birds. The quiet pond and river area and star-filled skies were rejuvenating.
The host was friendly and flexible, the cabins were clean and even in 40 degree weather the wood stoves had us in our skivvies.
If you are coming to the site in the dark, even with the host's instructions, the site may be hard to find.
We bought our water filtration system, but still decided to boil the filtered water because the water is pretty still. If you usually filter your water, either bring extra or plan to boil it.
