Booking & Communication: The check-in instructions were clear but had a different address than my reservation. The host did not clarify this discrepancy when asked. He said the entire building is non-smoking (important).
Check-In & First Impressions: Upon entering, I found the unit stuffy with open windows, reeking of marijuana smoke. The windows were dirty, and one did not lock properly. There were no paper towels. I immediately informed Scott, who apologized for the lack of paper towels, dismissed my concern about the windows citing “You’re on the second floor.” Did not address the smell or cleanliness.
Further Issues & Decision to Leave: Later, I highlighted additional issues: trash in the closet and drawers, and stains on the bathroom curtain and walls. These conditions were unacceptable, especially due to my asthma and allergies. He did not respond, so I decided to leave.
Refund Attempts: Despite the host promising to refund me May 11, it was not processed. Multiple follow-up messages on May 11 and 13 were mostly ignored. On May 13, when I said I would escalate to VRBO, he almost instantly processed a partial refund, claiming it was the maximum allowed. Final attempts to clarify the address discrepancy, cleanliness, and understand the partial refund led to the host responding defensively and dismissively.
Conclusion: This rental was highly unsatisfactory due to the unit’s poor condition and inadequate and unprofessional host response. I cannot recommend this rental.
