This was my second time staying at Mukarnas Taksim, the service has really gone down in a matter of three years. The hotel is short of staff. The lady at reception kept on answering phones in the middle of our conversation without apologising. We were two families who stayed in different rooms, we had a baby with us. During check-in, we were rushed to our room as our baby was tired and was crying. Behind us, the lady at reception informed our friends that our baby was creating a lot of nuisance so she had to rush us first to our room without knowing they were our friends - not polite at all! I’ve stayed in quite a lot of hotels now, and by far this was my worst experience in terms of service. We kept on informing them that our toilet sink was blocked but no one payed any attention. In terms of what we liked during our stay, the location was a top-seller. It’s in great proximity to Taksim square with all the transportation routes (metro, bus, taxi) and the quickest to the IST airport. 5 min walk to Istiklal Street, 15 mins to Galata Tower, 20 min downhill walk to Kabatas Ferry port. A lot of restaurants and Burger King, McDonald’s, Dominos etc. The Breakfast service was AMAZING!!! 5 stars to Gozde, Ayhan whom I jokingly called Ayran (Turkeys famous yogurt drink). They really made us felt better than our stay at any other 5 star restaurant we stayed, offered us free Turkish coffee which normally costed 2 euros, always made sure our baby was comfortable and entertained us.

Hotel is conveniently located right behind Istaklal street. Great location in just one minute you are on one of the busiest streets I like everything about the hotel except the room size, it’s pretty small hardly to walk in the room.

Disappointing
Was very disappointed with my stay. The staff English was poor. The night guy didn’t seem helpful because he wasn’t fluent in English and charged me £42 for the transportation which was terrible because i waited so long in the cold for my driver to come. Wasn't drivers fault but the system. Terrible. Room was big but bathroom was so small. Also as a Muslim country you expect toilet facilities to be in line with our faith but No. English toilet, no good for me. Breakfast was good! They had my luggage at the main reception which is not safe at all. You just have to trust the reception guy. No ticket/ receipt given for my luggage too.

The hotel insist on offering a basement room for rental. This room should be against building code and should not be rented to guests. The sewage scent will rip you out of your sleep early morning, and if that doesn't wake you up, then the noise and food scent from the neighboring kitchen and breakfast restaurant will do so. This is all next to each other, and for some reason, when the kitchen starts operating, so too does the sewage scent. The scents all mix together. We checked in at about midnight, went to get food, came back to the room after 1am, unpacked, showered, got some tea and got to bed at about 3am. By 7am the sewage-septic scent hit us heavily out of sleep. We called reception. The young man who came to help, climbed up on the dresser, opened the window at the top of the room (it opens to street level -noisy) and turned on the AC in bloody winter. He says the room needs to be aired, and we have a sewage scent because WE didn't let housekeeping in to air out the room. The nerve of him; considering we checked in just a few hours ago. All sleep was done for the day. They told us to pack up, and they would relocate us to another room later in the day after a guest checks out. We proceed to get dress, pack up, have breakfast, and might as well find a way to start our sleep-deprived day. After that things went well. The staff is otherwise exceptionally lovely and the new room was great. These are the only reasons I did not rate them a zero.
