The Host advertised as pet friendly. Then things changed, (as the Host admitted in writing a day before). Booking more than 2-months prior I received the Rental Agreement. “No pets allowed without notification before stay. $__ pet fee will be accessed if not notified.”
Upholding my obligation, I disclosed a small 12-lb dog more than 24-hrs before arrival. Then it began.
A barrage of VRBO chats & repeated calls ensued. The first volley was a surcharge. (Remember the rental agreement?) The Host admitted changing her pet policy after my booking (documented in chat). After I politely pointed to the Agreement, she changed, yet kept a charge. I questioned again, as I fulfilled my duty to disclose. The Host protested, in what felt precariously close to bait-and-switch.
Vulnerable to losing housing, I compromised. The Host accepted—with acerbic complaints. All this is on top of a sizeable Host FEE.
It is not acceptable for hosts to pressure guests to pay more than the agreed upon terms & a plain reading of a simple contract.
Also, when staying Tues nights, you must take two trash cans to the curb & notes are plastered everywhere reminding you of garbage duty.
VRBO help line was of no help. Something other than the Rental Agreement apparently governs, yet no one could provide written verification. If you don’t have a pet & don’t mind handling this Host’s trash, you may have a better experience. I’ll look elsewhere next time.
