Walk in the woods to hunt Deer, coyotes and turkey
Needs portable vac to walk around and vac flies in the Fall months(when flies sneak in thru air gaps.
Everything else worked out very well for the two of us (me: 81 yr old Dad & 53 yr old son - Retired US ARMY Colonel.
Great place to use a home base. We went to Binghamton, NY and checked out all the viaducts. Beautiful location, and the fall colors were in full display.
Pros
- Outdoor deck furniture
- View of lake
- Firepit
Cons
- Spiders everywhere inside the house
- Small wobbly refrigerator
- No screen on the basement door, would have been helpful to have a breeze for the mildew smell
- Blinds are hanging off of nails only and fell off multiple times
- Mail floor shower does not get hot
- Towels were dirty and there were only 6
- No dish towels
- Dining table chairs are dangerously wobbly, one specifically is uneven
- Not child friendly
- Black Mold covering the bottom outside door
- Dock had rusty nails sticking up
- Step exiting the bottom outdoor door was wobbly and we tripped multiple times.
- Outdoor swing is broken and unsafe to use
- Only a few burners on the grill worked
- no furniture to sit on while on main floor other than the table and stools so we didnât have a place to play with the kids. We didnât let them play in the basement due to the moldy smell.
Upon arriving to this property our first observation was the strong moldy smell wafting from the basement.
There were tons of areas in the house that seem to have been neglected for several years:
A broken screen door tossed on the porch near old moldy cushions, etc...
A broken screen attached to the door with holes spattered throughout.
Evidence of leaks in a few areas of the ceiling.
Mold Growing in the corner of the basement by the couch.
Broken hooks, toilet paper holders etc and ill-suited ceiling repairs.
Dead bug bodies smashed against dirty walls that have not been painted in quite some time.
A falling apart access panel above your head in the downstairs shower.
Broken, back heavy dining chair that kept falling over (loose legs).
Broken swing, rotting away as you sit on it and mold all over the back door and other neglected items rotting away.
Loose stones all over the falling apart retaining wall. (tripping hazard)
Broken dock tossed in off to the side of the yard and other debris.
The full list of items that were in disrepair or needing attention is too long to mention.
In the places where things had been repaired, shoddy work was evident.
Overall, the disrepair and mold smell left us with an unpleasant experience.
My husband, an experienced contractor and handyman, took dozens of pictures of the places where this property needs some real TLC.
note, it asks for a rating for "communication with property manager" but there was no communication.
*Missing items that would help the next party:
Kitchen colander
Clean kitchen drying rack for dishes ( the one I found was under the sink and a little moldy )
Mixing bowls/Salad bowls
Pot Holders
Hair Dryer
*Unsafe Items:
At least 2 of the kitchen chairs kept tipping over backwards onto the floor once you stood up out of them which was very hazardous with small children
A screen door with sharp edges was left laying on the deck with wet cushions and lawn chairs
Table on deck has very sharp corners for little heads
Dresser in downstairs bedroom very top heavy, top drawer slides open constantly
Lawn was not mowed or kept up
Online pictures are outdated, making the front lawn seem flat when in fact it is very rough with ruts and bumps, hard for our grand kids to walk on
Both front and back door handles were very loose and my husband had to tighten them
During our stay we emailed point of contact to ask about accessing the boat launch and still have not received an answer
Upstairs shower water did not get hot
Downstairs bathroom had a lot of spiders and webs and hair on the heater still that had not been cleaned
A lot of splatters on the walls & doors in bathrooms and kitchen that could be scrubbed off
2 boards on the dock were very weak & spongy to the point we had to step over them
With some more attention to detail, more thorough cleaning and a few fixes we would consider staying again as itâs a nice area
Property was not kept up with and clean. Ants all over the kitchen counter in the morning. Holes in the ceiling in the showers. Guests since May have been saying it needs to be cleaned better by the cleaning crew.
Grease in oven added smoke to our supper.
Inoperative smoke alarm did not improve the situation.
No hot water in main floor shower.
Mechanical issues are too numerous to list.
Dock was damaged and unusable even thou property manager informed that she had a picture from the same day that we arrived
The house is a great house snd great location. We tried to contact the property manager because one bed had dirty sheets and we never received a call back. We then called the main number and they said they would reach out to the property manager, and still no response. There werenât any other sheets in the house so we could change them ourselves, and we got in late the first night.. My four star review was more so for the property manager, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. My kids loved it.
We had fun. Pictures were a little deceiving we weren't expecting to back yard to be on a hill. Made it hard for us to hang out back there. And the showers were awful. Other then that everything was pretty good.
We had a very relaxing family vacation at this lovely home. It is a great cabin with a set up that makes it easy to forget about the world around you. The hosts are gracious and there is what you need in terms of amenities. It is a pretty lake and he rowed the little rowboat over for us to use. We did drive around the area to explore. From this place we traveled to Scranton one day to explore and another to another lake to swim - merli sarnoski park and to pick blueberries in an orchard. We enjoyed bbqing and the caring host came when there was an issue. So nice to be here. Recommended !!
We spent 4 days at the cabin, there were 7 of us total. We had plenty of space to hang out, together and individually. We spent a lot of time outside sitting by the fire. The only thingieoukd mention is it shows in one of the pictures the neighborâs boat, so I had thought that was part of this rental property. However, we drove to Dickâs Sporting Goods and bought an inflatable raft that weâll now have for other trips đ We had 2 members of our trip with mobility issues (my daughter uses arm crutches and my husband broke his toe before our trip) and they were both able to manage the property, just know that the spiral staircase is pretty narrow and some people may find it difficult. We had a great time at this property and enjoyed talking to random people out on the lake!
Great location, quiet surroundings, easy access to the lake. Air conditioning works well.
We had check in problems. Seems the cleaning service was not notified so that we waited several hours for cleaning and beds to be made. The refrigerator is very small, it was difficult to accommodate food and drinks for 4.
Positives
*Good location to interstate
*Great lake location
*Functional
Improvements
*AC unitsâ filters need cleaning.
*Ceiling fan blades need cleaning.
* Larger refrigerator preferred
*Washer/dryer preferred
*First-floor shower water very slow to heat
Overall, a good stay
