We loved our stay in this beautiful home. The house was spotlessly clean and lived up to the pictures. It felt cheery, fresh, and open. The location is peaceful and quiet but is just one or two minute’s walk to the bakery, riverside trail, and swimming beach. The center of the village is five or ten minutes walk.
The hosts were very responsive and helpful.
We drove in to Ottawa each day to visit my mother-in-law but in between we enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on the river (there’s a rental place in Wakefield), swimming at the beach and off the town docks, walks in the beautiful area, ice cream, meals on the porch, and many breakfasts of fresh pastries from the bakery.
The kitchen was well-stocked and we cooked most of our meals at home. The house had plenty of extra essential supplies plus some thoughtful extras. Our kids especially enjoyed the supply of picture books.
The only downside was sleep. Most of the bedroom curtains don’t close completely. That’s not an issue for privacy (the house is well-screened by trees and has space to any neighbors) but it may be an issue if you sleep best in complete darkness. The adults also had a hard time getting used to the mattresses.
Overall we still give this property five stars and wholeheartedly recommend it. Wakefield is a lovely village and this part of Quebec is so beautiful.
