The property is very conveniently based near Southern Cross station and staff are very friendly. However the place could do with renovation. Creaking floorboards above kept me awake until 1am and mattress was uncomfortable.

Sheets and towels were clean. Shower and toilet were dirty. Shower head so clogged up only a dribble of water - couldn't have proper hot shower. Toilet and sink leaking- Walter running constantly. Room was freezing - set air con to 26 - still freezing- set to fan only still freezing. Turn off altogether- still cold. 2 thin blankets folded in half and still cold. Floor tiles damaged and scoured. Mattress was appalling - woke up with sore back. Hair in shower.

I did not have high expectations of this hotel but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The room was good. The 6th floor was great. Only one problem was that the hot water was not working one morning but it was building wide and the hotel fixed it within about 20 minutes.

OK hotel for the price. Beds clean and comfortable and very convenient location. Air conditioning in room not working ( 30 degrees outside ) and previous reviews had stated this but assumed this would have been fixed. Complained and was given a fan which was helpful but barely adequate. Corridors & Reception area cool but not safe to leave door open which may have helped. Feel hotel should state this problem before bookings are made if it is an ongoing issue which it seems to be. Staff very obliging, generally.

Close to everything

Our stay at the Great Southern Hotel was quite comfortable. Although they were not able to rectify a plumbing issue over the weekend, the reception did their best to do so & made up for it with free breakfast vouchers. Otherwise our room was very large & comfortable with a lovely view of the main street with double glazed windows, so no traffic noise.
