The broilers broke as soon as we got there. So we didn’t have heat or hot water. When I asked the front desk gal, she was so rude. Like I should have known that was broken. Our heater in our room had 5 slots for heat to come out and it pushed out freezing cold air and we couldn’t control it. Crack in the wall. Very disappointing for the price we paid.

I tried to call the lobby on the room phone to ask about drinks (if they had any since me and my family did not have any to purchase ) no one answered 3 times even when my mom tried to on her personal phone . (for reference i tried to call them 5 times last month to ask the hotel about how parking was and no one answered that either). so my mom went to lobby to see what was up and confronted they did not answer the phones, the front desk people just shrugged their shoulders and didn’t apologize and acted like they didn’t care , and then it got really really cold in the hotel room because the heater was blowing out cold air, so i called my mom to tell her while she was downstairs with front desk, and they said in response “oh yeah there is something wrong with the boiler” . So we were just fed up with the hotel and left, they said they would give a refund but i would have to contact expedia to get the refund, i then said they refuse to answer phones so how would they know to give a refund, the front desk person said he would leave a note on the booking about providing a refund. When i contacted Expedia they don’t see a note and when they try to call the hotel “shocker they don’t answer “. This was a horrible experience and i explained everything to Expedia , even stating we had to drive all the way home with my little sister who has autism!! It was not easy!! I will be very very angry if im not able to get a refund from Expedia for this terrible service the hotel provided.

Changed rooms immediately after checking in because of no working AC and strong smoke smell. Next room had a boarded up window and a very weak AC unit. The bed had sand (or what we thought was sand) in it underneath the covers. Discovered this late at night after coming back to the room to sleep and planned on checking out the next day and switching hotels entirely. Extremely uncomfortable night of no sleep. The front desk staff was rude, not accommodating, and refused to refund me for the rest of my stay. She only said she would “try” to refund me for the final night (total trip was for 3 nights, only slept there one night). Her argument was “why didn’t you check out of the room in the morning, I could’ve sold this room.” And my response to that is that I had all day plans with no other hotel lined up until the afternoon. I sure hope she wouldn’t have “sold the room” to anyone else considering its poor condition. Seems inevitable that someone else would switch OUT of that room.

We had high hopes for The Gallivant, but our stay was a huge letdown. The photos online are completely misleading and do not reflect the actual state of the property. The prices are comparable to far nicer hotels in NYC, which is honestly laughable given the poor quality. The staff were lifeless and seemed completely uninterested in providing any kind of service. Our room was far from clean – the toilet wasn’t even flushed when we arrived, which set the tone for the entire experience. And in the lobby, they had all the dirty laundry sitting there!! We had originally booked for three nights but couldn’t stomach staying longer than one. We checked out early and went to a Hilton, which not only offered a significantly better experience but also ended up being cheaper. Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else. The Gallivant is not worth it.

I’m still waiting on a response to my numerous messages. I was promised compensation for the fact that the night of my arrival the boiler broke down (I arrived on the 5th December) so I couldn’t have a shower then the following day the boiler apparently was fixed but my shower was cold…the lift system is shocking you could easily be there for awhile waiting for a lift or waiting for a lift empty enough for you to get into…

The hotel was very conveniently located and it was cleaned. Housekeeping staff was very courteous and accommodating. Front desk was good too. Hotel lobby is nice but the rooms are run down with chipped paint and water damage in the bathroom. Vending was advertised as available in the website and on the signage at the hotel. Went to every floor it said there was vending and there was none available. Probably would not stay here again.

Perhaps cheap for New York but still I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so worn out. The room was clean enough but everything was so old and worn out, it felt grubby. I thought it a joke that they asked for a security deposit when everything is already knackered. Not good.

The photos and description of the rooms are miles apart. Room looked like someone had been living in it until about an hour before I arrived. The bathroom in the room was obviously built to be a wet room based on the shower build. However there is no drainage outside the shower and the shower is too small to have any hope of keeping the water in the shower. I had to use all the towels in to sop up the puddle caused by getting one shower. I will say the bed was very comfortable but the pillows may as well have been pillow cases full of trashbags. 3 elevators for a 16 floor hotel only 1 operational during my stay. Other guests moving items between floors shirtless. For 16 floors only 4 claimed to have ice and vending machines. The 15th floor both the vending machine and ice machine were broken wide open and not functioning. On the 10th floor the ice/ vending area must have been turned into a room or there is a secret tunnel somewhere to find it. The 7th floor only had an ice machine that barely worked. I did not bother trying to find the 4th as I am sure it would lead to some forgotten dimension. I would not be so salty if they did not wildly oversell the property. Were it 100$ less, it would also be ok. I would not bring a family here.

One and done!
As a frequent business visitor to NYC, I decided to try a boutique hotel close to Times Square rather than big chain hotels where I normally stay. Negatives: Walls were missing paint chips and had marks on them. Fixtures were old and some barely hanging on. The mattress was clearly broken. Sewer flys in the bathroom. Doors slammed very loudly. Small elevators. One of the elevators was not moving for a long time. No room service or restaurant. Not even a pantry to purchase water, sodas, or snacks. The room would not cool off so had to open window and being just down the block from a fire station made sleeping a horrible experience. Night stand filled with years of dust. One of windows did not have black out shade. Had to use a towel to cover it up. Very slow draining sink Positives: Price. Staff was nice. Shampoo, conditioner, and bath soaps. Close to Time Square. I was really hoping for a great experience to get away from big hotel brands, but if this hotel is any indication of boutique hotels in NYC, this is my first and last time.

I recently stayed at The Gavillant Times Square Hotel in New York with my 9-year-old son, and our experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, we were told that our room wasn’t ready, and we had to wait until 6 p.m. to check in. This was incredibly inconvenient and uncomfortable after a day of travel. The problems didn’t end there. On the second day, there was no hot water, which meant I couldn’t shower or get ready properly. To make matters worse, the staff was rude and dismissive when I brought these issues to their attention. It was clear they didn’t care about providing solutions or improving the experience. The A.C. in our room was another issue—it didn’t work properly. It was either unbearably hot, like being in Arizona during the summer, or freezing cold. Finding a comfortable temperature was impossible, which made the entire stay very unpleasant. What’s most disappointing is that I had upgraded to a deluxe room, expecting a better experience, but it fell far below expectations. I would not recommend The Gavillant Times Square Hotel to anyone based on this stay—it was uncomfortable, frustrating, and not worth the price.

Pricey but good.
Small but okay room, excellent beds, elevator took long to come, maid very nice, no breakfast but plenty of places around where you could get food, very pricey for what you get but that’s because of the location. Super easy to walk to the hotel after our Broadway show.
