Upon first arrival, we were thrilled with the location and the condo itself. As the week wore on, issues seemed to constantly arise. First thing Monday morning was jack hammering the concrete pad immediately under our unit. This continued for the better part of the day, and throughout the whole week. We did reach out to the property manager to be told they were unaware of the obviously scheduled work. They were in the process of replacing and repairing the pylons holding the unit up, so this obviously had to be planned.
While the unit was pretty clean, the kitchen was a problem. I learned upon check-out that it is the responsibility of the renters to make sure the dishes were clean. When I went to grab pots and pans to cook, there was literally caked on eggs and other stuff on the pans. Maybe that would explain the smell in the cabinet with all of the pots and pans, which made me not want to use anything without washing them all first. Then, on day 4, we discovered the ants in the kitchen by discovering them in the bags of hot dogs and hamburger buns among other items that we then had to throw out. The unit is a second story, and the ants were on the counter-away from a window. It looks like they were coming from the electrical outlet by the coffee maker.
This was our first trip to Oak Island, and we loved it. But, we will definitely not be looking at this unit again, even though it was so close to the beach and the perfect size for us.
