We were a bit worried when some local friends told us that Opotiki could be a little rough, but we didn’t have anything to worry about. The neighborhood is quiet with friendly neighbors. I had no qualms about walking around to the BEACH, which was spectacular! About 5 minute walk from the house, it was wide, long, and plenty of shells to be found. We had some rainy weather during our stay and I was sorry I couldn’t enjoy it more. The only downside was limited dining options close by and a 30+ min drive to Whakatane
The downstairs of the house had huge sliding doors that you could open up to the backyard. There is no AC so you really had to open them, but there were several fans scattered around the house as well. We did have some mosquitos getting in through those windows.
Nice large open living area and a well appointed kitchen that had everything we needed. There’s a French press but no Nespresso machine, so bring coffee (not pods!). Property was well maintained. Nice laundry room with newer washer and dryer and a large rack to hang clothing. The downstairs bedrooms are right off the living area and require you to walk around the kitchen and through the laundry room to get to the only first floor bathroom. Upstairs bathroom is spacious. Game room at the end of the hallway is a great second living space.
Had some questions about trash but management company was responsive and we got it sorted.
