A mostly tranquil get away at Tranquility Villa
My husband and I just returned from Jamaica where we enjoyed five fabulous days at Tranquility Villa. The house is as depicted, set way up on a hill overlooking the ocean and town below. It is a very comfortable home with all of the conveniences you would want and comes with a caretaker and cook. The usual cook was away and her daughter took her place - Marsha did an awesome job and we enjoyed some of our favorite Jamaican dishes in the comfort of our own home. We ate at home every night - the food is so good, no need to go out. Dennis, the caretaker took great care of us and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He even managed to find someone to bring us some local vegetables that were not available in the market and invited my husband down to play dominoes with the guys. Dennis stays in an apartment downstairs so he is always available if you need him and otherwise stays out of your way. The only thing that was disappointing was how noisy it was in town for the first few nights. Very loud music playing until 2 am and the noise drifts right up the hill to the house. Day trips in the area included the Blue Lagoon which sadly needs a lot of work. Winifred Beach was our favorite spot. No need to bring food as there are some kiosks where great food can be purchased for a reasonable price. We liked Winifred so much we didn't bother going to Frenchman's Cove. One food tip - DO NOT go to Boston Bay for jerk chicken/pork. We were there many years ago when it was fantastic and the meat was properly seasoned and cooked. Now the food is terrible, hardly any seasoning, cooked on a grill and way over cooked. We couldn't eat our food. Dennis warned us that is wasn't good any more but we didn't listen and went anyway. He nicely did not say "I told you so!" when we returned with our unhappy report. We would definitely recommend Tranquility Villa!
