My friend and I wanted to stay somewhere near the Norfolk Amtrak station while we visited here for the long weekend. This home in Old Town Portsmouth is in a pretty neighborhood and a short walk to a lot of cafes, shops, and the local ferry. It fit our needs quite well and it was a comfortable and spacious stay! We also enjoyed all the neighborhood cats and the takeout food we ordered that was delivered here with no issues. The owner was also quite nice and left us a frozen pizza and some chips and hummus for our arrival!
There were some drawbacks. The area is a little rough, so I’m glad we stayed together - one night, we heard a guy yelling outside at 2 am and there were four police cars surrounding him. Nothing else happened, but it did make us both lose some sleep. In my room, there was an active wasp nest in the window. Again, the bugs did not cause any injuries and when I let the owner know, he responded about it right away to say he could send a maintenance man to take care of it. My friend also tried to dry her clothes in the in-unit dryer. For some reason, it didn’t dry anything despite running as if it was going to. Again, the owner responded right away and let us know he could send someone to fix this. I also personally think the sheets were not the softest, but they were definitely clean and the beds and furniture were all in very good repair. All minor stressors, I would say, but certainly something to consider if you want to stay in this neighborhood.
