The wife grew up “in the country on acres of land”. She moved us to downtown Chicago last year, but requires a trip back into to the “country” for the peace of nature, the sound of night time bugs, the fresh cool air, and abundant wildlife. Riverfront Cottage exceeded both of our expectations for peace and calm. Not only was it easy to get to from so many directions, but also much appreciated pavement and NO gravel roads! The neighbors may have had dogs, who knows, we never heard a single one bark. Two nights we slept with all the windows open, overhead fans quietly running, and the fresh air was restorative. There were so many birds to watch and listen to, grey and black squirrels to watch harvest the nuts, turkeys and deer scattered about, and never a sight nor smell of cattle! On the water kayaking by 6:45 am and blown away by how close we got to the Sandhill cranes and the curious turtles in the water. The kitchen description prepared us for what we could use and what we should consider bringing. Packed in spices, extra storage containers, pre-made dessert, and groceries/charcoal for 3 meals on the grill and dinning in, all but once. Perfect reset away from people and nearby to WI State parks for hiking (Devil’s Lake hiking is a Must!), many lakes for viewing or dinning nearby. Possible considerations; the master bedroom bed is soft, comfortable for some, but not firm. Also, no dresser or closet for unloading the suitcase in the master bedroom.
