Youre 45min from downtown. Be mindful of finding roaches in your room. When notifying staff they said you only saw 1? Reply isnt 1 too many? They sprayed room. No other issues. It was nice but honestly wasnt luxurious

The food was the worst I’ve ever had on a vacation. The hotel was run down, dirty and lacked a lot property maintenance. The AC didn’t work, not only in my room but friends room as well. First night there was a blood stain on my sheets then room service failed to clean my room a few times. The locals on beach at the shops were completely tired of tourist and were over priced on all the terrible food. Only one slide w small pool for kids. Everytime we called concierge, no one spoke English. I will not be returning.

Sadly, I am unable to recommend this Barcelo hotel. It was such a change from the Mayan side where my family had an amazing time. Hospitality seemed to be lacking here. Many staff did not smile, food choices were very limited and not well thought out. No guacamole, limited salsas. On the one day there was a variety of salsa, there was no tacos or chips for it. So strange! We had a late flight and asked for a late check out, but, had to pay 300 pesos each to stay an extra 3 hours on property that was not at full capacity. The Mayan side offered that courtesy without any charge. Also, Expedia VIP was not offered and when we asked about it at check in, we were told they knew nothing about VIP and to contact Expedia. Overall we were underwhelmed by our stay here. I will say, on our last day Oscar from the lunch buffet was a pleasant surprise with a cheerful smile and great service. Also the cantina staff provide nice service and smiles. We stayed here based on my good experience on the Mayan side, but, there does not seem to be brand consistency and will choose another hotel next time.

We had an amazing stay at Barcelo! Top notch rooms, service, pool area and restaurants. The food at both the buffet and the a la cartes were excellent, the pool area was beautiful and was never too busy or loud and there was always an employee walking around taking drink orders. The resort is right on the beach too. Our room had two couches, they stocked our mini fridge each day for free and had a rainfall shower. We be booking at a hotel with the Barcelo group again. Highly recommend pre booking transportation from the airport to the hotel (we used Grayline) since it’s about a 45 minute drive.

Staff and service was amazing. Food at the specialty restaurants (Los Arcos and Capri) was mediocre, but the buffet had lots of good choices—though pretty much the same breakfast spread 3 days in a row. We didn’t realize we had booked a premium room and VERY glad the friends we were traveling with decided against upgrading to match. No discernible perks to having premium status besides room service being included. The premium lounge was not a “lunch restaurant” at all as advertised, and a very sterile and awkward environment that I would have been very bummed to have paid more for. But rooms were great and spacious, and our bed was sooooo comfortable! The biggest disappointment was how small the stretch of beach was, and it oddly had no tidal change whatsoever.
