Not as expected 😕

So first off we came in late from an all day family trip from SeaWorld and the check-in took a bit long regarding with my credit card. Then getting our key to our room the room had a thing hanging from our Windows towards the balcony area not pleasing at all. The pictures when we booked looked a lot different people were really loud out in the pool area I'm talking all night where it was hard to sleep I was expecting for a relaxed time to sleep off the fun-filled day we had but instead I just tried to be comfortable and ignore all that sounds around us. I also forgot to mention that I got charged on my credit card for the overnight parking when I did that the night before with cash so just very inconvenience of an overall experience.

We opted for a premium room with a patio. The room was very nice. It was clean and the bed was fairly comfortable (I’m a harsh critic of beds because it’s hard to match what I have at home). Our lodging experience was very pleasant. Would definitely stay again.

I liked my stay! I stayed in a beautiful balcony room facing the pool. Lounged all day with the window open listening to the breeze as I got ready for my night at the theater. The room was clean and spacious, and the noise complaints I had read really didn't bother me as it was a quiet night I suppose. I wish I had brought swim suit as the few people in the pool and hot tub made me incredibly jealous, even though it was a chilly night the pool seemed to heated and warm enough to get in. My one complaint was that I had wanted to eat dinner and have drinks in the hotel restaurant but it was closed! On a Saturday night i was kind of shocked that it was. They had the pool bar open and we decided to have a drink there which was.. okay, the staff very nice but it was so awkward because they kind of just stared at you, I kept thinking to myself "say hi! your working in customer service" i was always the first one to engage in a hello first which just made me feel uneasy and I wanted to just finish my drink and the get out of there. Other than that experience, I would stay here again and again, just maybe make reservations for dinner and drinks elsewhere ahead of time.

The property was about what we expected, good stay for the price. Friendly and helpful service, clean facilities. Bathrooms are a bit small (limited counter space). I would recommend bringing own pillows, the hotel’s were too flat for my liking.

Not a great experience

Well, first the entry to the parking lot was blocked by cones. I drove around the block but didn't find another entrance, so I went around the cones. Upon check-in i was delighted to find out there was an extra $25 fee for parking in their vast empty lot. I was assigned a room next to the loudest humans on earth, which was strange because the hotel seemed to be mostly empty. My room had enormous windows facing east into the sunrise, so after my loud neighbors woke me at 6am, i had to pack up in the dark because the glare off the car outside my window was eye piercing and there weren't sheers to block people seeing in. I stay in SD a lot, but that's probably my last time at Handlery.

First, let me start with the pros: The rooms were clean. Front desk staff and security guard were very nice and helpful. Restaurant and Bar were nice. Hotel was in a great location: Close to shopping, dining and a quick drive to SDSU, SeaWorld and beaches. Now the Cons: No elevator. Very worn and needs major renovation. It has potential but really needs a facelift. Parking was a nightmare. They had 2 different conventions going on, so all of the parks were taken. I had to park at the very back of the hotel, far away from our room which was kind of scary. On the day we were checking out, housekeeping kept coming to our room multiple times early in the morning trying to get us to leave. It was annoying because check out wasn't until 11. We tried explaining that to them, but they didn't seem to understand English.

It is a place to stay for a short stay

Facilities are fairly well maintained. There was a rug smell when you enter the room, probably related to the humidity and carpet cleaners used. Price of coffee was way too high. Parking lot was large and charge is comparable to other hotels in the area.
