It seems to have gone downhill in our eyes
The big bar was terrible the surfaces were sticky like they were never cleaned properly. Our bedroom had some bare patches on ceiling and over picture rails .there were 2 of us but only 1 chair..
There were no heating when we arrived, the temperature was 0 outside, i informed a staff who said it is not going to work until 8 am , but it didn’t start even at 8 am. I asked another staff in the morning to what happened and she politely said that it a mistake and it should have worked all night and proposed to bring up a portable heater when we were about to leave the hotel. I didn’t expect that!
We woke on the morning of our booking to hear a severe weather warning being broadcast on national television. Storm Bert was due to hit Yorkshire that night, with the Vale of York being highlighted for excessive snow. When I tried to cancel or rearrange my one night booking I was told that I had past the free cancellation period. I pointed out that we would be travelling against official advice and that I believed that the exceptional weather conditions were totally out of our control. But no one would budge and I was told I would lose 100% of my booking fee. I believe this is totally wrong and Hotel.com should have done more to get a refund from this hotel. I did phone the hotel on the morning of my booking to explain the situation and the man I was speaking to, Joe, was sympathetic and said he would speak to the hotels management to ask them to waive the charge or allow me to book for another date. Joe said he would get back to me but it’s now 24 hours since then and I’ve still heard nothing from him. This is very poor and because of these exceptional circumstances I should not be charged or at least been offered the opportunity to book for another date.
Good location both for railway station and event venue (luckily climbing the hills should be good for my waistline! Not a criticism, as the hills are unavoidable.).
Aside from that, hotel is fine, decent and comfortable - have stayed here before, no doubt will again.
Had room 110, nice room but radiator thermostat was broken so couldn't turn it off so was a little too warm, other than that was nice perfect for what we needed

Whilst the hotel is a bit run down, it was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again.
It was a one night stay which overall was good, the only fault really was when we booked in the bed had not been made after telling reception we were assured it would be when we got back from the theatre, when we returned it still was not made after telling reception again we were moved to another room, which was ok.
