The River Cottage sits on a long approach to the wide Magothy River, just before it spills into Chesapeake Bay. From the cottage back door, you take a flagstone path to the river dock. It is so quiet, all you hear are birds, ducks and the water lapping against the shore.
A respite after 7 days on the road with a dog and a cat
Itâs a wonderful place. Ideal for sleeping one or two. I hosted 10 of my family for a crab roll feed down by the water. It was delightful and I was glad to get back in the kitchen after seven days on I-90 and fast food.
Hate leaving bad review-beautiful setting but disaster of a weekend.
Terrible plumbing issues. Toilet backed up first night, next morn rotten egg stench, which permiated entire cottage, when hot water was turned on (even hot water from kitchen sink). Place is quite small/Smell was unbearable so we vacated for the day without showering. Property manager first sent handyman without resolve, then a plumber to change out hot water heater. we arrived back late afternoon, plumber just left. The smell of bleach was so strong it burned our eyes and made it difficult to breathe, we opened all windows/doors. Still unable to use shower as black sedement was coming out. We left cottage for a dinner engagement-unshowered. Had to sleep next 2 nights with windows open due to strong bleach smell. Unfortunately, black sedement never cleared despite turning on faucets and letting them run. (Pics of sedement sent to manager) We stayed in contact with propery manager throughout the weekend, reporting issues. Between the unbearable smells, having to sleep freezing with windows open 2 nights, not being able to use hot water/shower for 3 days, we were pretty miserable. We would have found other accomodations, but due to Navy/AF game, everything was booked. My husband was playing in alumn golf outing with formal dinners planned every night so going home was not an option. We did leave one day early (after golf event). Manager offered a refund for the night we didn't stay, but considering circumstances, not sure that was adequate.
My boyfriend and I have busy and demanding careers. With working remote, we needed a change of scenery but not too far from DC if we needed to be in person.
This was the absolute best getaway. We enjoyed working on the pier and porch. Evenings spent relaxing with a glass of wine. Annapolis is just a short drive a way for a nice dinner.
We will return!
