NORTH POND HAS HAD AN ALGAE BLOOM 4 OF THE LAST 5 SUMMERS!!! For those of you that don’t know – YOU CANT SWIM IN THE WATER.
We learned this the hard way, we stayed this past week and it was hard to explain to my two young kids that they couldn’t swim in the pond in our backyard.
We were devastated as the cost of these cabins was hefty, but to add insult to injury, we rented a boat, which was an additional expense, and literally the whole vacation hinged on water sports (ie: tubing, skiing, etc).
The accommodations are lovely and well appointed, but I can’t conceive of not letting renters know that swimming is dangerous – we felt misled and frankly lied to.
Shaina was lovely until I asked about the bloom. She then provided what sounded like a very canned statement that read it is ok, except for babies and dogs. Well, that unfortunately is not the case, the bacteria is dangerous and the state of ME advises: NO SWIMMING. Full disclosure, she did offer $700 back, but frankly that pales in comparison to the cost of the cabin which are advertised as water front property. Another few issues for renters to be aware of: there is a lot of broken glass on the beach and the cabins are very hot. We knew going in that the cabins didn’t have air conditioners. We picked up a small window unit thinking we could overcome that issue, but the windows are crank, so it is hot and there is very little air circulating. We made the best of it, but not being able to tube, ski, or swim was awful.
