May in St Margaret's Hope
Uniquely positioned the cottage was a tranquil place to stay. There is a nice roomy bedroom and an efficient shower. We did struggle with some electrical items, we couldn't seem to work the heating, they are obviously on a separate electric supply as just switching them on doesn't do anything until the follow day when the switch is then lit and some heat is coming out. But we didn't want the heat in the day and it never seemed to throw out any heat in the evening. The other problematical thing was the oven. We weren't looking to cook lavish meals, just some simple items we could pop in the oven. These required temperatures of 190 or 200 degrees. We gave up waiting after 40 minutes for the oven to get to the right temperature and settled on 175, opening the door to put in the food reduced the temperature back down to 125. It took about 3 hours from start to finish to cook a tray-based chicken meal that stated in would cook in an hour.Orkney is well worth a visit, perhaps stir fries would have been a better choice.
