I stayed at the Cambie Hostel while I was traveling internationally solo to Vancouver to see Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. I felt safe and it was a lovely walk to the stadium. It got a little loud until about 2am so if you're looking to go to bed early, this isn't the spot. But we had so much fun meeting everyone. The rooms were clean and the staff was so great. My Taysation at the Cambie was purrfect. Meow to the cats for me <3

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
I was in town for the Taylor Swift concert. This hostel is a 10 minute walk from BC place and it’s right in the center of downtown. Everything was so walkable! There is a bar downstairs and the music is very loud. It plays until 3am most nights and you will hear it. I used headphones tho and melatonin and was fine with the noise. There were plenty of outlets in the room. Some beds are better than others. I was lucky and got to choose a bottom bunk that had an outlet and safety box right next to it. The bottom bunks also have a little curtain too and every bed has a large safety box to put your suitcases in. They are big enough for a carry on and backpack just being your own lock. The staff had even made small welcome bags for those going to the Taylor concert! For the price it was exactly what I needed!

Liked: Cleanliness
Beware this is a very loud hostel considering there is a bar on the street level. The bass thumping goes on into the wee hours of the night. The staff working the check in desk were cordial but not necessarily friendly. I never saw the 2 hostel cats so that was disappointing lol
Likes: The location/proximity to BC place was convenient. The room was clean.
Dislikes: Matress & pillow was very thin. The key was hard to get into the lock. Bathooms were out of order at 8am on Monday due to cleaning. Under bed lockers are more suited for a carry on. There isn't an elevator so you have to lug your luggage up a couple of flights of stairs depending on where your room is.
I had a disappointing experience checking in at Cambie Gastown Hostel. I arrived at 11:30 PM, expecting to check in smoothly and get some rest, but was told by the front desk staff that I would have to wait until after midnight due to a shift change. I found this incredibly frustrating, especially because when the new staff finally checked me in, the process only took about 5 minutes. It made me wonder why the first receptionist couldn’t have handled the check-in instead of making us wait for an additional 30 minutes. This delay felt unnecessary and really set a negative tone for my stay. I would recommend they improve their check-in process, especially for late-night arrivals.
The building is very old and needs to be renovated. The bathrooms, kitchen, and hallways are smelly and dirty. The beds, pillows, and blankets all smell really bad. There is an unpleasant odor inside the rooms and throughout the building.
Very dirty. Constant smell of sewage coming in the room. Stairwell smelt and looked like a urinal!
Mice and rats running in and out of the room all night!! Woke up to cockroaches running all on the floor and over bags!
Will never stay there again!!
What I didn't like is the shower room. It is so tiny and they don't even have a place where to put toiletries and hang towels and clothes. But the place is clean and presentable.
Don't expect too much. It's in a good spot. Place is old and but everything is working.
It's above a dive bar with good price food and drinks. A bit loud from 9-2am.
Stayed for 2 nights. They have kitchen. Front desk is very accommodating.
Will come back here if im in the area.
