This was our second stay at the purple house and we had a wonderful time. The location is quiet, and an easy walk to both the lake and the main street where most of the restaurants and stores are. The host is very nice and very responsive. The place had a lot of amenities as well.
This listing was completely false and disingenuous. We could not stay at the property, the smell from mold and septic was so bad. The third bedroom, per the listing, was a laundry room with a bed. The air conditioning was one window unit for the entire home, which made it hot and stuffy. We lifted the comforter to see hair on it, just plain gross. I had to go find a hotel after driving almost 5 hours and want my money back in full.
This ground-floor apartment (owner lives above) has an amazing location -- it's on a quiet street, but just one block from the harbor/waterfront, from the local park with summer concerts, and from the restaurant/shopping street. Watkins Glen State Park, the swimming beach, and two grocery stores are also walkable (within 1 mile). We barely used our car once we arrived. The host is very quickly responsive to questions.
The apartment is in an older house typical of the neighborhood, and while not updated, it's generally functional and well-supplied. Two air-conditioners in the central main room cool the apartment fairly well even though the bedrooms don't have AC (fans are provided). The industrial-size washer and dryer are very handy.
Some aspects could be improved, especially lighting -- some rooms are quite dark even with all lights on. Bedding is noticeably worn. Other characteristics of an older house (uneven floors, uneven/low ceilings) might bother some people but not others.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here!
Perfect location. Felt safe. Owner responds immediately with questions. As they state- the pictures depict the property. It is older but spotless. It is exactly what I needed and you can walk to everything! Charming neighborhood and town.
This place has a great location. The neighborhood is safe and so quiet. All of the beds are very comfortable. The only drawback is that this is not the entire house. We were surprised there is an upstairs apartment. We did not see any mention of this in the narrative. The folks upstairs were quiet, so it was fine.
Also, it stated there was a hot tub and sauna, which there were not. Not a big deal for us and we we still enjoyed ourselves.
My group of friends needed a place to stay for a track day at Watkins Glen, and this place was 100% perfect. Plenty of parking both in the driveway and on the street. The house was really cozy and perfect to decompress after a full day of track driving. Bill was very thorough in his communication and was very accommodating. I will not hesitate to book this place again for my annual track day or any other stays in town!
We needed a place to stay close to family in a local town. We booked a long weekend to start our spring break and had a fun, yet relaxing time. We found a poker set in the house and played every night (all beginners, but we had so much fun)!
We walked to the pier and enjoyed local places for coffee and pastries. We ventured to Ithaca as well and hiked the trails there at Taughanock Park as well as Watkins Glen State Park.
This couldnât be more convenient and the house has many lovely, homey touches. William is quick to respond with any questions (often within one minute) and was flexible and accommodating. We hope to stay here again on our next visit!
We arrived at 7:30 pm and walked out at 7:40.pm We felt unsafe! Pulled into drive and no lights at all to gain access. Opened door and house has mildew odor. No light switches inside door to find our way around and very few in other rooms. No privacy window coverings in kitchen, most of the windows that had curtains were sheer and anyone could see in because we could see right thru them!. Also the living room blinds were broken and anyone walking by could see in. Kitchen door also no window covering and locks also not strong, we just really felt unsafe! I am sorry to put this on my review I tried to email you first but not able. Our party had 2 adult males and 2 adult women, we live in rural Central PA and we did not feel safe staying here which has to say something. We ended up traveling home! I understand this home is yours and your neighborhood we are not from the area so we don't know our surroundings. I have never put a negative review, not sure I will ever use Vrbo again. .
I wish you the best of luck.
Location is perfect: about a block from Seneca Lake and the busiest part of town. Even so it was quiet (at least in October). The house was very clean and the host responsive. My friends and I enjoyed our stay. It has the quirks inherent in older homes (eg, some rooms oddly shaped); as long as you find that charming you will love it.
A friend and I only stayed one night in this cute little place on our way to a weekend retreat. We both loved it and will definitely be back. The house has a lot of character which makes the stay even more special. The house and property were clean and inviting. We didnât use much besides a couple of beds and the bathroom/shower but what we did use was clean and comfortable. The property is within walking distance to downtown which is very convenient. The host was super responsive and helpful when asking for recommendations for sights and restaurants on our trip. I highly recommend this property and host.
We had a wonderful stayâŠ..great location can walk to everything in downtown Watkins. Loved sitting outside. Very comfortable beds. Bill is very attentive âŠ.Great location for wineries as well !!!
A really great spot for a long weekend! We were able to walk easily to the park and to our meals and the property itself was roomy, clean, and comfortable. The beds were great and the air conditioning was astonishing - I didn't know a window unit could work that well. I was surprised at how much we enjoyed spending time in the outdoor space. My only tip: don't forget to bring a hair dryer - it was the only thing I missed while we were there.
My family had a great stay at the purple house! Perfect location, two blocks to the lake and to the shops in town! Beds are very comfortable, it was nice to have the kitchen to make breakfast, and room to hang out outside. Bill is very responsive to questions and provided recommendations of local events going on, which we appreciated.
Didnât realize we were renting out just the bottom portion of the home but there was still more than enough room. Very clean. Walked to breakfast and some shopping. Very easy to find the purple home. Bill was very nice to communicate with! Will definitely rent again when we come to the area! Thanks Bill for having us!
The purple house is the ideal location. You can see Seneca Lake from the property and downtown Watkins Glen is 2 blocks away. So close to Tobeyâs Donuts! It is an old house with lots of character. Kitchen is fully stocked and was perfect for us to cook several meals. Beds are very comfortable. Outdoor space allowed us to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather. We reached out to the owner several times prior to our trip with planning questions. He responded promptly and thoroughly.
The purple house was well stocked and roomy enough for our 4 adult visitors! We barely moved the car out of the driveway, as downtown Watkins Glen was just a short walk away! Very pleased!
We had a great stay at the purple house! William was easy to communicate with and the house was very clean and had everything we needed. The location is perfectâŠwalking distance to downtown shops, restaurants and the marina. Not to mention the mattresses at the house are by far the most comfortable we have ever slept on in a rental. Thank you!
