You just don't get the chance to stay in a house like this everyday. Lovely original features including stone and woodwork. Roomy, comfortable and cool in the summer heat. Great place to stay if you're someone who appreciates preservation of old homes. We prepared most of our meals in, taking advantage of the grill and roomy, well stocked kitchen. A lovely little restaurant near the high school provided great takeout sandwiches (and even ‘lumpia’) as well as friendly customer service.
Shower accessibility on the first floor was difficult for older members of the group and will be made much easier completion of the additional bathroom on the first floor. Otherwise bathrooms were clean and in good condition. Full bannisters on the staircase would make the upstairs more accessible as well. The screened porch was lovely and cool. Such a relaxing place to talk and visit.
The house had so much character. At this price point though, the house would be improved by regular professional cleaning. Many years of grime and dust have accumulated in areas of the home. We were not provided a key and were told to leave the door unlocked when we were not home (there was a house alarm, monitored by the owner). It may be a small, safe town but we were not comfortable with that or finding every window unlocked and most readily openable. It would be nice to have access to the pool but it was not available as part of the rental agreement.
The owner was friendly, responsive, helpful and readily available. He knows a great deal about the home and is obviously working hard to preserve and improve it. This house is definitely worth a visit.
