What you can expect

Escape the hustle and bustle of Athens and dive into Greece's rich history on this full-day and carbon-neutral day to Epidaurus and Mycenae. Discover the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae, which served as a major centre of Greek civilisation; see iconic sites and visit the small village of Epidaurus.

Heading towards the Corinth Canal, you start your day with a scenic drive along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf, before arriving at Mycenae, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. Explore the ruins of this archaeological site; see the Cyclopean Walls, the Treasury of Atreus—a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure—and wander through the entrance of the Lion’s Gate and the Royal Tombs.

You’ll continue your drive with a stop in Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece and home to the Palamidi Fortress. Enjoy a guided walking tour through the heart of the old town, then take a leisurely stroll on your own through its quaint alleys, where you’ll have time to enjoy a traditional lunch at a local taverna or a relaxing cup of coffee with a seaside view.

After Nafplio, the final stop of the tour is the city of Epidaurus, home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ancient theatre and believed by the ancient Greeks to be the birthplace of Asklepios, son of Apollo. The theatre of Epidaurus (entry not included) is considered the best-preserved of ancient Greece and is still used today thanks to its exceptional acoustics. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the site and learn about its fascinating history with your guide. Alternatively, you can take a peaceful stroll through the small forest next to the theatre or unwind with a coffee or tea, enjoying the sounds of nature before returning to Athens.
