The Excellence Junior Suite was absolutely beautiful. I loved that the mini bar was included in our package. The only thing i didnt like was the third party sales people who harass you around the resort trying to sell you excursions. They place these sales people right down the stairs of the main lobby. I want to relax in a resort, not feel pressured. Other than that, i enjoyed our stay

My wife and I went to the El Carmen for our honeymoon. I was at the resort for one and a half days before I became violently ill. I was unable to leave the room because I was in the bathroom the entire time with vomiting and diarrhea. I had a fever of 103.8. the resort's doctor came to assist me and provided me with probiotics, muscle relaxers, Dramamine and Pedialyte. The doctor also gave me an injection of a strong sedative that I was told was for my nausea. I was lied to by the doctor that the probiotics were actually antibiotics. The bill for this visit cost me $400. I became so dehydrated that I needed to return to the US a day early and go to the hospital. I received an IV for severe dehydration and some antibiotics. Two weeks of testing and persistent diarrhea later revealed that I had gotten Salmonella. I had most likely gotten it from contaminated or undercooked food I had consumed at the resort. I have been attempting to contact customer service for over two weeks and they are refusing to even acknowledge my emails. Nobody from the front desk will answer either. I lost over 15lbs. My wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. My wife and I had to pay over $1,000 to change our flights and I had to pay over $500 in medical fees. I now have to start the process of a travel insurance claim which has already proven to be terrible. I would recommend doing yourself a favor and going anywhere else but the Excellence El Carmen. Unsafe and unsanitary.

The staff is amazingly sweet and helpful however it was not clean the shower was dirty inside and around and there was hair in various places of the room
